Lettlndinfos - Nachdem in Kurland der Frühling’23 anscheinend nun auch beschlossen hat, hier zu bleiben, wird nach Ostern die Arbeit im Garten bei allen Letten im Vordergrund stehen. Mit Hacken, Spaten und jeder Menge frischer Pflanzen und Saaten werden die Gartenbesitzer – wie in jedem Jahr – schon früh morgens in die Gärten gehen, um – was sollte man anderes tun? – zu graben, zu hacken und zu pflanzen und zu säen!

Der Lette ist es gewohnt, möglichst viele Pflanzen aus den Samen der vorjährigen Pflanzen zu ziehen. Dieser Tage füllen sich somit die Fensterbänke in vielen lettischen Wohnungen und Häusern mit jeder Menge selbstgebauter Pflanzenkästen, Blumentöpfen und Schalen, bestückt mit den verschiedensten eigenen Vorjahres-Samen!

Da dies leider nicht immer klappt und sowieso, man will ja mal was Neues und Anderes, ist jetzt auch die große Zeit der Gärtnereien. Hier laufen die Vorbereitungen schon seit Wochen, um dieser Tage und in den nächsten Wochen, die vielfältigsten Kundenwünsche zu erfüllen.  

Gärtnereien gibt es in Lettland sehr zahlreich. Teilweise haben sie sich auf Blumen spezialisiert, oder sind, wie die Gärtnerei „Talsi-Kuldiga 4km“ von Inese Pudule, als klassische Gärtnerei zu bezeichnen, die das gesamte gärtnerische Angebot abdecken. Hier gibt es die verschiedensten Sorten von Gurken- bis zur Tomatenpflanze, Gewürzpflanzen und natürlich Blumen.

Jede Gärtnerei hat ihre Spezialitäten, wobei Inese Pudule wohl darauf achtet, dass sie keine „Massenware“ anbietet, sondern ein breites Sorten und Pflanzenangebot bereithält. Hier wird noch mit der Hand gearbeitet und – spaßeshalber -   könnte man behaupten, dass die Mitarbeiter der Gärtnerei jede Pflanzen bei ihrem persönlichen Vornamen ansprechen, was das Wachstum, der Pflanzengesundheit und nicht zuletzt auch dem ertrag zu Gute kommt.

So, ich gehe jetzt in den Garten und schreibe meine Einkaufsliste!

Lettisch: Kad pavasaris atnāk uz Latviju - vai - kā vācietim Latvijā!

Zum Foto:  Veloceliņš no Talsiem uz Stendi (un, protams, ceļš) iet tieši garām stādaudzētavai. Tāpēc nav problēmu iegriezties šajā nelielajā, bet jaukajā stādaudzētavā.

Der Fahrradweg von Talsi nach Stende (die Straße natürlich auch) führt unmittelbar an der Gärtnerei vorbei. Also alles kein Problem, mal in der kleinen, aber besonders „pfiffigen“, Gärtnerei, vorbei zu schauen.

The cycle path from Talsi to Stende (and the road, of course) passes right by the nursery. So it's no problem to drop by the small, but particularly "smart" nursery.

Lettlandinfos - Now that spring '23 seems to have decided to stay here in Courland, too, gardening will be the main focus for all Latvians after Easter. With hoes, spades and plenty of fresh plants and seeds, garden owners will - as every year - go out into the gardens early in the morning to - what else could you do? - to dig, hoe and plant and sow!

The Latvian is used to growing as many plants as possible from the seeds of the previous year's plants. These days, the windowsills in many Latvian flats and houses are filled with lots of home-made plant boxes, flower pots and bowls, filled with various seeds from the previous year!

Since this unfortunately doesn't always work out, and anyway, one wants something new and different, now is also the great time of the nurseries. Here, the preparations have been going on for weeks, in order to fulfil the most diverse customer wishes these days and in the coming weeks.  

There are many nurseries in Latvia. Some of them specialise in flowers, others, like the "Talsi-Kuldiga 4km" nursery in Inese Pudule, can be described as classic nurseries that cover the entire range of horticultural products. Here you can find all kinds of plants from cucumbers to tomatoes, spice plants and of course flowers.

Each nursery has its specialities, although Inese Pudule is probably careful not to offer "mass-produced goods", but rather a wide range of varieties and plants. Here they still work by hand and - just for fun - you could say that the nursery staff call each plant by its personal first name, which is good for growth, plant health and, last but not least, yield.

So, I'm off to the garden to write my shopping list!
