Lettlandinfos - Wer dieser Tage auf Lettlands "Seitenstraßen" Fahrrad fährt, hat zwei Gründe dafür: 1.) Er liebt Fahrradfahren, oder 2.) Er liebt die lettische Landschaft rechts und links der Straße! Die Straße liebt er mit Sicherheit nicht!

Wie in jedem Frühjahr, so wurden auch in diesem die "Seitenstraßen" - Kies-, Schotter- und festgefahrene Lehmstraßen - mit Planierschildern platt gedrückt, um die Schlaglöcher des vergangenen Winters zu verfüllen. Zurück bleibt eine Schotterfläche, die für Zweiräder kaum zu meistern ist. Erst der Regen (aufgeweichte Straßen) und viele Autos später (die die Steine in das Erdreich gerückt haben) verwandelt die Schotterstrecke in eine befahrbare glatte Oberfläche. Das dürfte aber bis Mai/Juni dauern, was Lettland nicht unbedingt - trotz des flachen Geländes und der vielen landschaftlichen und sonstiger Reize - zu einem Eldorado für Fahrradfahrer werden lässt! Alleine schon deshalb nicht, weil ein Großteil der wirklich wunderschönen lettischen "Seitenstraßen" nun mal eben Schotter- oder Lehmpisten sind!

Lettlandinfos - Ikvienam, kurš mūsdienās brauc pa Latvijas "aizmugures ceļiem", ir divi zaļie aspekti: 1.) Viņš mīl riteņbraukšanu vai 2.) Viņš mīl Latvijas ainavu pa labi un pa kreisi no ceļa! Viņš noteikti nemīl ceļu!
Šopavasar, kā katru pavasari, "blakusceļi" - grants, zemes un sablīvēta māla ceļi - tika izlīdzināti ar greideriem, lai aizpildītu iepriekšējās ziemas bedres. Palicis grants segums, ko divriteņu braucējiem ir gandrīz neiespējami apbraukt. Tikai lietus (kas samīkstina ceļus) un vēlāk daudzas automašīnas (kas ir pārvietojušas akmeņus augsnē) pārvērš grants ceļu par izbraucamu gludu segumu. Taču tas, visticamāk, aizņems laiku līdz maijam/jūnijam, kas Latviju - par spīti līdzenajam reljefam un daudzajiem ainaviskajiem un citiem apskates objektiem - ne vienmēr padara par velosipēdistu eldorado! Kaut vai tikai tāpēc, ka liela daļa no patiešām skaistajiem Latvijas "blakusceļiem" ir grants vai mālaini ceļi!

Lettlandinfos - Anyone cycling on Latvia's "back roads" these days has two greens for it: 1.) They love cycling, or 2.) They love the Latvian countryside to the right and left of the road! He certainly does not love the road!
This spring, as every spring, the "side roads" - gravel, dirt and packed clay roads - were flattened with graders to fill in the potholes of the previous winter. What remains is a gravel surface that is almost impossible for two-wheelers to master. Only the rain (softened roads) and many cars later (which have moved the stones into the soil) transform the gravel road into a passable smooth surface. But this will probably take until May/June, which does not necessarily make Latvia - despite the flat terrain and the many scenic and other attractions - an Eldorado for cyclists! Not if only because a large part of Latvia's "side roads" are gravel or clay tracks!
